Our Mission. Our Vision. Our Responsibility. Our Community.
Friends of GV is a non-profit organization of residents dedicated to guiding Greenwich Village into the 21st Century. We love our neighborhood. It is an altogether unique, vibrant, rare, and at times fragile piece of this great city. It’s a community built on values and vision. And it’s a neighborhood that has grown and thrived and endured because each generation has recognized it has a responsibility to shephard the neighborhood into the future, with intelligence and careful consideration, especially during moments when the city needs its residents to step up. Our Residential Improvement District gives us, the citizens of Greenwich Village, the ability to care for and advocate for our own neighborhood -- which has taken on critical importance as the city and state struggle with budgets and services severely weakened by the pandemic. By coming together as neighbors, students, and business owners, all of us who live in the area or visit it can ensure the Village remains the unique community that it is.
The Core of The Big Apple
The epicenter of the city's 1960s counterculture movement, the tree-lined streets of Greenwich Village are now a hub of popular cafes, bars and restaurants. Jazz clubs and Off-Broadway Theaters can also be found amid the brownstones and New York University buildings. At its heart is Washington Square Park, where people mingle around the central plaza. Rainbow flags attest to the neighborhood's LGBT-friendly vibe.

Our Neighborhood
We are proud New Yorkers, but even prouder Greenwich Village residents.
We welcome you to come visit, shop and enjoy our little Village.
Our Heritage
Go anywhere in the world and "Greenwich Village" is synonymous with creativity, individuality, freedom of expression, and inclusivity. For more than one hundred years, the Village has been a community of artists and like-minded residents who embody the best of what it means to be a New Yorker.
Our Todays
They say it takes a Village -- and it does. While New York struggled through dark chapters in the 70s, the Village never lost its values or character. That's because the residents who called it home were invested in preserving all that was unique about it. They didn't cut and run. And their commitment to the neighborhood made it the sought-after community it is today.
Our Tomorrows
As we move into the 21st Century -- and mark the fifth century that this neighborhood has been home to New Yorkers of all kinds -- those of us who live in the Village are excited about doing what Villagers do best: keeping our piece of New York City vibrant and vital, so that it remains a beacon that inspires people everywhere.
